An abandoned village
This very easy 7-kilometre loop will take you on a tour of these sepulchral monuments and take you through the limestone plateaux of the Causses, with their shrubby vegetation and the many low drystone walls that mark the boundaries of the plots.
It also offers you the chance to cross the abandoned village of Barrières, which has been deserted since the early 20th century. Only the ruins and facades of the houses bear witness to the presence of men who mainly worked the land and raised livestock. Our imagination does the rest, and as we contemplate the remains of a bread oven or the site of an old fireplace, we can relive the harsh but lively life of this village. Since 2015, an association has been working to maintain and restore the site, with the aim of preserving a trace of this heritage.
Finally, to round off this walk, you can stop off at the Archéosite des Fieux, to discover a site that was both an important hunting ground and a temporary dwelling, from Neanderthal man to Cro-Magnon man (see our previous article). There's no doubt that during this walk you'll travel both geographically and through time, visiting places steeped in history.
