Blog : Tourism news from our region

There's so much to discover close to the Moulin du Boisset. To keep you informed, we're writing articles about local news, what we've discovered on our walks, what's happening in the tourist industry, our favourite places to visit, and also a few words about our life in this beautiful house...

We hope you enjoy reading them.

Don't bring your strawberries!

That's also why every May, whenever we can, we go to Beaulieu sur Dordogne. It's a charming medieval town with its abbey church and penitents' chapel. It's the starting point for some lovely walks along the Dordogne and canoe or gabare trips. But above all, Beaulieu is at the epicentre of a major strawberry-growing area, and every year the farmers/producers organise the " Strawberry Festival ". It's a hugely popular and well-attended event, with plenty of stalls where you can buy crates and tubs of strawberries, a market selling local produce and crafts, plenty of terraces lined with cafés and restaurants, patisseries selling strawberry cakes and tarts, a children's area, a variety of entertainment... The highlight of the show is the gigantic tart, one of the biggest in the world, made by the patissiers and listed several times in the Guinness Book of Records. This year it was over 30 metres long. At the end of the festivities, the pie is distributed to the public for a few euros. We couldn't resist it, and it was with a full stomach and arms full of a nice crate of strawberries that we headed home.

A new homemade "Strawberry-Cinnamon" jam is now available for breakfast...
